National Signing Day is now less than a week away, and with a few spots left in the 2020 class, Mike Leach will try to close on some big time recruits during the final week of recruiting.
3* Jamari Stewart (OLB/DE)
A recent offer for the Bulldogs came to Jamari Stewart of West Centennial High School in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Centennial High School was home to a former Bulldog great, who is rumored to be joining the staff soon in Jamar Chaney, who also recently coached at Centennial High School. Jamari has been offered by Arizona, Indiana, and Auburn and is down to Mississippi State and Arizona. Steward is rated as 39th best WDE in the country. Stewarts 247 Sports Crystal Ball is currently at 50% for Mississippi State vs 50% Undecided.
3* Rufus Harvey (WR)
Rufus Harvey received an offer today, the 3* wide receiver from Starkville High School recently committed to Arkansas State, but is considered a heavy Mississippi State lean.
Rufus had a great outing in the MS/AL Allstar game practices and had a great season racking up 1,200 yards of offense and 16 touchdowns. Leach’s staff connecting with Starkville High School will be huge as the 6A program has continued to develop great prospects, some include: Willie Gay, A.J. Brown, Kobe Jones, and now Rufus Harvey.
Harvey is rated as a 3* Wide Receiver by 247 Sports and collected offers from Illinois, Arkansas State, Austin Peay, Eastern Kentucky, and Nicholls State.
3* Kahlil Benson (OG)
Kahlil Benson is another guy the staff has been recruiting hard in the final weeks before signing day. Benson was committed to Ole Miss since last summer, but Lane Kiffin decided to not honor his commitment when he was hired. Benson has now been courted by Mississippi State and will be visiting this weekend. Benson is down to Mississippi State and Indiana, and is rated as the 45th best OG in the country. Benson’s 247 Crystal Ball has Mississippi State at a 40% favorite to land Benson vs 40% Undecided vs 20% Ole Miss (OM predictions before decomittment).
3* Dylan Spencer (OT)
Dylan Spencer is another Offensive Tackle recently offered by Mississippi State. Spencer is a 3* OT from Madison Central (Madison, Ms). Spencer committed to Southern Miss, but opted not to sign with the Golden Eagles in December. Spencer will be deciding between Mississippi State and Missouri. He visited Mississippi State last weekend and decomitted from Southern Miss, but he will also visit Missouri where former Mississippi State OL coach Marcus Johnson is currently. Spencer’s 247 Sports Crystal Ball is currently 100% in favor of the Bulldogs.
3* JUCO Kyle Cass (CB)
Kyle Cass was another recent offer from the Leach staff, Cass who is from Mobile, Alabama has been playing JUCO football at Mississippi Delta C.C. Cass has offers from Arkansas State, Liberty, MTSU, and Old Dominion. Cass had 23 tackles and 1 interception for the Trojans. It appears that if Mississippi State will take his commitment Cass will almost certainly be in the boat.
Transfer K.J. Costello (QB)
Stanford transfer quarterback, who is one of the most coveted quarterbacks in the transfer portal officially visited Mississippi State last weekend and visited Washington this week. Costello has thrown for over 6,000 yards and 60 touchdowns during his time in Palo Alto, and would be a huge asset to any program who gets him. Costello originally from Rancho Santa Margarita, California was a consensus high 4* rated prospect coming out of high school, and was rated the 3rd best pro style quarterback in the nation. 247 sports describes Costello as:
Costello is one of the best pure throwers in the West region as a junior. He has a big arm, can make every throw and is very accurate. He shows nice touch on the deep ball and can throw the outs and comebacks on a rope. He’s a cerebral QB with a high football IQ and understands how to play the position. He’s a very competitive kid with a strong work ethic off the field and is a natural leader as well.
Costello was being recruited by Mike Leach at Washington State before he got the job in Starkville, and would be a huge get for the Bulldogs if Costello elects to commit to the Bulldogs. Costello’s 247 Crystal Ball is currently 75% for Mississippi State and 25% Washington so the odds are looking good on that front. Mississippi State has already hit the portal to get Scott Lashley, former Alabama tackle and are considered one of the favorites to land former 5* linebacker Levi Draper from Oklahoma.
Transfer Levi Draper (LB)
Mississippi State is very depleted at linebacker and having a player like Draper that could step in immediately would be huge. Draper will have two years to play two, and announced he will be transferring from Oklahoma. Draper was a 4* and the 5th best ILB in the 2017 Class. Draper’s destination will probably not be decided by signing day, but the Bulldogs will be in the mix for Draper for sure as he has said really good things about the Bulldogs.
