Mike Leach has increased the recruiting profile at Mississippi State considerably especially at quarterback.  The architect of the air-raid will have quarterbacks across the nation wanting to play in his constant passing offense. We are starting a series today about the top prospects at each position for a loaded 2021 class, and we begin with QB.

4* Sawyer Robertson (QB)

Sawyer Robertson was offered by the Leach staff recently and is one to look at as he was extremely interested in playing for Leach at Washington State. Roberston hails from Lubbock, Tx a town where Leach is know very well, and beloved by many. Robertson is rated as the 10th best Pro-Style Qb by 247 Sports and his lead recruiter is listed as Dave Nichol IWR coach at Mississippi State. 247 Sports describes him as:

Tall, lean quarterback with ample space for adding good weight as development continues. Provided great spread offense production in breakout 2018 sophomore campaign. Stays on top of the ball with mostly overhead delivery. Drives the ball down the seams, on throws to the middle of the field and on outs. Really spins it in the short to intermediate range. Shows encouraging ball placement in tight windows, including back-shoulder throws. Nice touch and trajectory on deep balls, fades, and corner routes. Not a true dual-threat, but nimble enough to make the first wave miss to extend a play. Occasionally can surprise a defense with a designed run or scramble. Too flat-footed at times. Footwork needs to be more consistent. Can step into throws more consistently. Baseball mechanics occasionally manifest in a wind-up, hurting release quickness. High-major QB prospect with long-term NFL Draft ceiling. – Gabe Brooks (247 Sports)

Robertson currently has offers from Mississippi State, Louisville, Nevada, North Texas and SMU.

4* Garrett Nussmeier (QB)

Nussmeier is another high 4* prospect from the state of Texas. Garrett is the son of the 1993 Walter Payton award winner and current Dallas Cowboys QB coach Doug Nussmeier. Nussmeier is rated as the 11th best QB prospect in the country. Garrett threw for 3,788 yards and 38 touchdowns during his junior season for Marcus High School. Nussmeier also has offers from LSU, Arizona State, Arkansas, Boise State, San Diego State, and Colorado.

4* Ty Keyes(QB)

Shifting back to the Magnolia State, Ty Keyes will be another quarterback at the top of the board for Mississippi State. Keyes is rated as the 6th best dual threat quarterback in the country and regarded as one of the best in-state quarterback prospects in a long time. The Taylorsville signal caller is considered a heavy Mississippi State lean but has collected a couple of offers from Ole Miss, Arkansas, and Auburn.
