The Mississippi State Soccer team had fallen on hard times after losing back to back games in conference play, and looking for their first win since they beat Missouri 3-1 on September 21st in Starkville. However, it was not meant to be as the Crimson Tide bested the Soccer Bulldogs 3-2 in double overtime.
Alexis Mouton would start the scoring off for the home team, as she would score in the 28th minute of the contest. Then Casey Wertz would score on a header to put Alabama out in front 2-0 in the 48th minute. Mississippi State could have laid down in this moment of adversity, however, Makayla Waldner and Carly Mauldin would notch two quick goals in the 75th and 77th minute to tie the Bulldogs up with the Tide.
Mississippi State and Alabama would then hold to force OT. The scoring drought for both teams lasted for 24 minutes until Abbie Boswell scored the game-winning header to put away the Bulldogs.
Overall, the Bulldogs had many chances leading the shot battle 22-17, but tieing on shots on target with both teams having eight. The loss brings Mississippi State to a record of 7-4-3, and 1-4-2 in SEC play. The Bulldogs will return home on October 19th to face Georgia.
