Dan Mullen held his press conference today, and big news came out of today’s press meeting.

Malik Dear will Medically Redshirt his Junior season. Many held hope that Malik might be able to return this season, as he suffered a torn ACL injury in April, but the recovery for an ACL Injury is a long and hard one, and you risk reinjury when coming back earlier than what is advised. Overall, in the long run, this will probably be a very good decision for Malik and Mississippi State, as he will now have two years of eligibility remaining and will be at full health barring any injuries. Dear accounted for 23 catches for 264 yards and two touchdowns, as well as running the ball 17 times for 124 yards and a touchdown during his Sophmore season.

Gabe Myles expected to play on Saturday

Gabe Myles, who suffered an injury during the Lousiana Tech game, and hasn’t played since is expected to see action on Saturday against BYU. Myles, who is a Starkville native has experienced some success during his Senior campaign as he caught 4 passes for 40 yards and two touchdowns in only two games. Getting Myles back would be huge for Mississippi State’s offense, as it has become evident of the lack of experience the Bulldog receiving group has.

Martinas Rankin Status is still TBD

Martinas Rankin, who injured his ankle two weeks ago against Auburn, status is unknown. Dan Mullen would not rule out the possibility of Rankin returning as the starting Tackle for the Bulldogs on Saturday, but he did add that if he was unable to play, then there could be some more changes on the Offensive Line. Losing Rankin is a big loss for the Bulldogs, as he is expected to be a First Round draft pick, during the 2018 NFL Draft.
