Friday marks the start of Mississippi State’s annual Big Dawg Camp, and just like in years past, we are expecting Mississippi State to add to their recruiting classes this weekend. With that said, here are our predictions for the most likely players to commit entering this weekend.
The first prospect we take a look at is 2019 quarterback Jalon Jones. Jones is a dual-threat quarterback from Richmond, Virgina, but will be attending St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, Maryland, his junior year. Jalon is unranked on 247, but does hold offers from UCLA, Mississippi State, Alabama, and Virginia, and is expected to rack up more offers in his next two seasons. Jalon has expressed his interest in developing into a better passer under Dan Mullen, now widely regarded as a quarterback guru (Tim Tebow, Alex Smith, Dak Prescott, Nick Fitzgerald). Jalon Jones is really trending toward Mississippi State with the latest predictions coming in this morning showing his 247 Crystal Ball at 100%. The likelihood of Jones committing this weekend is very high.
Shaun Peterson Jr.
Shaun Peterson Jr., from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, is our second player on our commit watch list this weekend. Peterson hasn’t been rated by 247 Sports, and only holds offers from Mississippi State and USF. Shaun is a 6’3, 210 pound outside linebacker in the class of 2018, and plays for Nova High School. Peterson shows great speed at the position, playing running back at Nova as well as linebacker. Peterson camped at Mississippi State last June, and we predict that he will commit to Mississippi State before the weekend is over.
Next, we stay in the 2018 class with Memphis native Devon Robinson. Robison is rated on 247 Sports as a low 3 star, but he does hold offers from Louisville, Mississippi State, and Memphis. Robison is a 6’6, 260 pound defensive lineman. He collected 38 tackles, 9 tackles for a loss and 5 sacks as a junior at Whitehaven High School. Devon is the prospect on the list we have the most confidence in, as he has already set his commitment date for Sunday, and we think he will be a Bulldog when he announces.
The final member on our list is the one we are least confident in. Nathaniel Watson, a 3-star athlete out of Maplesville, Alabama, has been trending toward Mississippi State in recent days and will be at Big Dawg Camp this weekend. Watson has played both sides of the ball for Maplesville High School. Watson holds offers from Auburn, Mississippi State, and Ole Miss. Mississippi State is currently 40% on his crystal ball, with the most recent predictions going in Auburn’s favor. It would be nice to lock down this incredible athlete early, however, we would put the chance of Watson committing at just under 50%.
